Radiohead Album Preview

From RollingStone.com...

"As you've no doubt heard by now, Radiohead are releasing In Rainbows, their seventh studio album, in two different formats: a basic DRM-free download version that costs whatever you want that's available October 10th, and a deluxe boxed version that includes a double vinyl disc, a book, eight bonus tracks and two CDs, out the first week of December (it also comes with a DRM-free download that actives on October 10th).

The good news for those of you who can't wait: As any hard-core Radiohead fan knows, most of the songs on In Rainbows have been played live by the band for some time, and versions of them are widely available on the Internet. Here's a track-by-track breakdown of Radiohead's new album."

I have placed my order and can't wait to hear the new album!

UNKLE - War Stories
(Surrender All 2007)

The evolution of UNKLE continues. Now with three full length records under his belt, James Lavelle has produced an eclectic dance rock record that is heavy with guitar and his famous friends. Guest spots include: Josh from Queens of the Stone Age, 3D from Massive Attack, Ian Astbury, that one dude from Eagles of Death Metal, Nada Surf, and more.

Wired All Wrong - Break Out The Battle Tapes
(Nitrus 2006)

When I heard about the prospect of Jeff Turzo from God Lives Underwater and Matt Mahaffey from Self/Beck teaming up to record I got a little giddy. After all these were two of my guilty pleasures from the high school days. The record sounds amazing and dives right into the world of loops, samples, keyboards and more.

Orange 9mm - Tragic
(Atlantic 1996)

I pulled this CD out of a box that had been unopened since I moved to Springfield last year. I love this record. It has raw aggression teamed with some angular grooves. I miss the noisy hardcore from the 90s, like Helmet, Snapcase, Unsane, Quicksand, Handsome, etc.

Launch-A-Label

In a world where it is easier to illegally download your favorite music online than pick it up at the local record store people have come up with some ridiculous ideas on how to take back control of the music industry. This is my current favorite: Launch A Label. This site will allow you to become one of 50,000 co-owner's of a record label for a $25 donation. You will then be able to vote on the record labels name and the first 5 artists/bands that they sign. Check it out: launchalabel.com

Colorado Golf = Massive Drives

While visiting Darci's parents this past weekend in Colorado I had the luxury of playing an amazing course outside of Grand Junction called Redlands Mesa Golf Course. This course has to be one of the best I have played. Almost every hole had a scenic view and some interesting challenges. The best part of the entire day was my rental driver (an extremely large King Cobra,) paired with the mountain altitude. I was hitting my drives between 280-350 yards all day long!!!

Elevation Partners

While doing some research on Palm, Inc for a client this past week I ran across some interesting information. I found that Bono, from the band U2, is the man behind an investment group / private equity firm called Elevation Partners. They are currently working on a recapitalization plan with Palm, Inc that will effectively make them a 25% shareholder in the company. So what does this all mean? Maybe some cool U2 exclusives in the future for Palm Treo users.

Websites: BandToBand.com

This site is amazing! Someone either has way too much time on their hands or decided to make a school project exceptionally cool. This site will connect the dots between musicians / bands and show you their family tree.

Everyone knows that (Soundgarden + Rage Against The Machine) - Any Musical Substance = Audioslave, but did you know that there is a connection between U2 and Nirvana or one between The Clash and Weezer. Interesting....

Website: BandToBand.com

Check out groups like: Helmet, Soundgarden, Green Day, Pearl Jam, and Guns N Roses

Cover Songs: Cake - "War Pigs"

Recently I was reading a CD review/news blurb online at TheDeciblog.com and found this video. The video is a cover of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" by Cake. The video is amateur, but the recording is excellent. Enjoy!

Ebay: Crazy Auctions = Crazy Cash

This past week I have been listing quite a few CDs on Ebay. The whole goal is to consolidate the CD collection and archive everything to MP3. What has been amazing is the amount of money people are paying for some of the CDs that I have been listing. I had a CD by a band called Mindless Self Indulgence sell for $115 this evening!!! It's Amazing. Not a bad price for something that was sent to me for free when I was working radio!

Check out the auction here:

Gotta make this blog look kickin'

The last two nights I have been working with a couple of different layouts/templates for my new blog. When I played with color schemes I finally concluded that I need to create some new graphics. So.... I will go back to the drawing board and see what happens.
